GATV Participates in the 1st Open Conference on Generative AI (IAGen) Organized by UPM
On June 19, 2026, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) organized and hosted the I Jornada Abierta IAGen en la UPM. This institutional event served as an academic platform focused on Generative Artificial Intelligence.
🧠 Contribution to the R&D Generative AI Panel
The Grupo de Aplicación de Telecomunicaciones Visuales (GATV), a leading research group in this technological field, was represented by researcher and PhD Gustavo A. Hernández Peñaloza. He joined as a featured panel speaker in “Mesa Redonda 3: Investigación en la era de la IAGen” (Roundtable 3: Research in the Era of GenAI).
The scientific panel track was composed of:
- Moderator: Carlos L. Molpeceres (Adjunto para Centros e Institutos de I+D).
- Participants: Gustavo Hernández (Faculty member at ETSISI and GATV researcher) alongside Alejandro Rodríguez González (Subdirector de Investigación, Innovación y Emprendimiento at ETSII).
The roundtable enabled a direct exchange of expert perspectives regarding the challenges and current state of scientific research facing the evolution of generative frameworks.
🔬 Scientific Track Record and Knowledge Transfer
Professor Gustavo A. Hernández Peñaloza serves as a Profesor Permanente Laboral within the Departamento de Sistemas Informáticos at UPM and is a core research member of GATV, alongside his academic duties at the ETS de Ingeniería de Sistemas Informáticos. His research trajectory focuses on applying artificial intelligence techniques to healthcare systems, social network behavior analysis, and multimodal environments.
Holding a PhD from UPM, his work includes developing solutions for monitoring neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, as well as tools for bot and disinformation detection on Twitter using deep learning models and transformers. His established scientific background features more than 20 publications in high-impact journals and conferences, maintaining a Scopus h-index of h=11.
The group’s active role in this UPM framework underscores its ongoing commitment to high-impact technology transfer and sharing real technical engineering workflows within the university ecosystem.
