GATV Drives Technical Coordination at the 6th Plenary Meeting of the MOTIVATE XR European Project in Italy
On June 24, 2026 , the Grupo de Aplicación de Telecomunicaciones Visuales (GATV) at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) took part in the 6th plenary meeting of the MOTIVATE XR European project. Hosted in Italy over two working days with the consortium partners , the meeting focused on reviewing the project’s global status, aligning upcoming technical milestones, and coordinating operational tasks as the project enters its final execution phase, with approximately 12 months remaining until completion.
GATV researchers Javier Serrano and Verónica Ruiz participated directly in this technical milestone.
🛠️ Technical Coordination & Architectural Integration
Acting as the technical coordinator of the project, the UPM-GATV team actively contributed to:
- Synchronizing the consortium’s work packages.
- Monitoring the continuous integration of XR tools.
- Conducting technical verification of the developments achieved so far.
The working sessions covered progress across components such as authoring, experimentation, backend, integration, and industrial pilots. Special emphasis was placed on architectural consistency, interoperability, and the preparation of the upcoming technical validation phases.
🚀 Technology Transfer & Industrial Impact
MOTIVATE XR is strictly oriented toward industrial transfer by building a common European platform of XR and AI tools for training and industrial assistance. Its core technological pillars include:
- XR and AI tools for training and remote assistance.
- No-code authoring frameworks.
- Digital twins.
- Automatic transformation of technical documentation into immersive experiences.
These developments have potential applications in strategic sectors such as aerospace, energy, advanced manufacturing, industrial maintenance, home appliances, and human-robot collaboration environments. Their adoption reduces training costs and times, supports field technicians, improves expert knowledge transfer, and makes XR content creation accessible to non-specialist users.
🤝 Strategic Positioning
For GATV, this meeting reinforced technical coordination among partners and highlighted its central technical role within the framework, strengthening ties with European partners. This activity aligns with the group’s core strategic research lines in immersive technologies, multimedia information processing, visual communications, distributed systems, and digital transformation , solidifying UPM’s position in European R&D projects tied to Industry 5.0 and European digital sovereignty.
The research group extends its thanks to Youbiquo for hosting this 6th plenary meeting, providing an organized and productive environment for technical exchange and future planning.
